Milliken & Company to Cut About 650 Jobs Worldwide
Milliken & Company announced Tuesday it will reduce their workforce by around 650 associates - across 47 worldwide locations - because of the recession.
Richard Dillard, director of public affairs for Milliken, says these moves don’t impact the Spartanburg Research facility.
A Milliken statement says the reduction is starting immediately because of a significant downturn in their markets served. Those workers are receiving individual counseling according to the company.
“We have done everything we could to avoid arriving at this point, such as temporary stop-offs and rotating people out at our various manufacturing locations on a weekly basis, but at some point in time you have to bring some stability to your core workforce,“ said Dillard in a written release.
“It is a gut-wrenching process to have to tell some of your good, loyal, hard working people that, through no fault of their own, you have no work available for them,“ said Dillard.
Dillard says Milliken & Company is financially strong and well positioned to weather the current economic slump.
