The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office released results of their heavy patrols - including law officers from outside the area - this week along the interstates.

The Sheriff’s Office reports officers from 20 agencies seized $188,000 in cash and approximately ten kilograms of cocaine during the four day Operation: Rolling Thunder on Interstates 26 and 85 in Spartanburg County.

The majority of the traffic stops were for routine traffic violations like improper lane changes and speeding.

Law officers searched 242 vehicles. The Sheriff’s Office says about 47 percent of the drivers stopped were white, 34 percent black, 15 percent Hispanic and 4 percent other in a written release.

There were 44 arrests for drug violations out of the total of approximately 1,106 total offenses.

Law officers from SLED, the Upstate and Lowcountry were involved in the effort. There were also officers involved from Lowndes County, Georgia and Rutherford County, North Carolina.

The written release says money and vehicles seized during the operation will be divided up between the agencies that participated in the joint effort after federal asset forfeiture hearings.
