CHESTERFIELD, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina sheriff is praising the parents who called authorities after discovering that their son had ordered bomb-making materials on the Internet.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker tells ABC's "Good Morning America" that the parents likely avoided a disaster at their son's high school.

Ryan Schallenberger was arrested Saturday after authorities say his parents called police because he had ordered 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate, which they retrieved after getting a delivery notice from the postal service.

Authorities say Schallenberger bought the ammonium nitrate on eBay.

Schallenberger was charged with making a bomb threat and a prosecutor says the teenager will be charged today with possession of bomb-making material. The prosecutor says he will request at a bail hearing today that the teen undergo a mental health evaluation.
