An 80-year-old Anderson woman was assault while talking on the phone to her son, according to reports from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
They said someone broke into her home and severely beat her.
She is in the hospital and investigators are at the scene.
A News Channel 7 reporter spoke to the woman’s son.
He said his mother, Betty Looney, lives alone in the house.
He said she was on the phone with him this morning when she said some had just come insid her house. At first he thought it was another relative.
Then the phone was disconnected.
He called her back and that’s when she told him she’d just been beaten.
He raced over to her house while dialing 911 on his cell phone. Her son says they have no idea what a motive would be. He says his mother could not move around well and was sitting in her chair while she was beaten. He says she was beaten severely in the head and face. The family does not know if anything was stolen.
A friend of Looney’s says she is a wonderful, sweet woman and she can’t imagine why anyone would attack her. She says Looney has osteoporosis and used a walker to get around. A Sheriff’s Office spokesperson says the beating is so severe, it’s the worst thing she has seen in four years with the office.
Looney has three daughters and two sons. Her condition is not known at this time.
