Charleston AMBER Alert Suspect Surrenders, Baby Is Safe

Corey Heyward surrendered to police hours after an AMBER Alert was issued.

An AMBER Alert is over in Charleston on Wednesday morning. Corey Heyward surrendered to police and is under arrest. Five month old Cori’anna Heyward was handed over to officers.

The alert was issued by the State Law enforcement Division earlier Wednesday for the child, who was believed to have been in extreme danger.

The child was last seen on Magwood Drive in Charleston around 2:15am. Authorities believe the child was likely abducted by Corey Heyward. SLED canceled the AMBER Alert at 10:45am and said Heyward had been arrested.

Authorities have not said what charges he faces. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is also helping in the case.
