Board Releasing New S.C. Revenue Figures Thursday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Legislature’s budget writers are getting an update on the state’s tax collections from the Board of Economic Advisors.

The board meets this afternoon to update revenue figures. Their data will show how the state’s retailers did in after-Thanksgiving sales, but not the final weeks of the year in critical holiday sales around Christmas.

Reduced estimates from the board since July forced legislators and the state’s financial leaders to slash $1 billion from state spending.

Cutting the state’s budget to $6 billion has taken a heavy toll on education and health care spending.
