A man found Saturday night in Gaffney died of natural causes, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler. The man has been identified as 53 year old James Thomas McGaha of North Limestone Street.
“A passerby spotted Mr. McGaha lying partially on the sidewalk near the intersection of East Robinson and North Petty Streets about 12:20 a.m. and called 9-1-1,” Fowler said in a press release.
An autopsy was performed this morning in Newberry in order to assist with my investigation and to rule out any foul play. Fowler stressed, “Mr.McGaha’s death is not connected to the five homicides that have occurred over the past 7 days in Cherokee County.“

This is insane!
I take my children & my dog walking 2 miles or more down main street & around Petty. The night of the Tyler murders we were going walking and it was a little late so we stopped at the college & walked around there. Had we taken our regular walk we’d have been 3/10ths of a mile from the Tyler store at that time. I don’t feel safe going out much anymore but I surely do not feel safe taking my children out walking around there anymore. My children haven’t been out to play & we’ve not been out for our walks since this happened. When my child asked how we would celebrate 4th of July tonight we told him we were going to stay alive. I do not want to let this idiot control our lives but I’d be a nervous wreck taking my children out into such a crowded place with fireworks exploding.
My heart goes out to all of the families. In some way I wish I knew who this person was if only to bring an end to it but in other ways I pray that I do not know someone so evil!
