Officials in Cherokee County say that a teenager has become the fifth victim of a serial killer.
At a press conference held Saturday afternoon, Cherokee County officials said that 15-year old Abby Tyler died around 11:25 Saturday morning at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Tyler was found shot, along with her father, Stephen, inside the family’s business at Tyler Home Center in Gaffney around 7:15 Thursday night. Stephen Tyler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says that law enforcement continues to work around the clock and follow-up on every lead and reports involving descriptions of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. Fowler asked that people continue to pray for the Tyler family, along with the rest of the victim’s families and the Cherokee County community as a whole.
The suspect is a white man about 6’ 2”. He weighs about 250 lbs and had salt and pepper colored hair when the first witness saw him. Authorities are also saying the suspect had large blue eyes.
News Channel 7’s Elizabeth Owens has more on this story.

Has anyone thought about maybe this guy is wearing those blue colored contacts? If he is, then people would dismiss anyone they suspect to resemble him if they don’t have blue eyes… remember there are so many ways that he can alter his appearance for the crimes and then quickly undo them to aleviate suspicion…
i agree with my sister megan anything can make or break the case every detail is inportant and even once this “blue eyed killer” is caught people should still be leary and carefull never let your gaurd down. this isnt 40 yrs ago or even 20 its getting worse as the years go by. you should always keep your children close to you your homes locked ect ect. the blue eyed killer will get caught there are cops from nc sc columbia and many other places are in this the people of gaffney are all helping he can only hide for so long. my heart goes out to all the victims and to all the people here. my brother is having braclets made to rember abby and her family. please do not live in fear live in caution as you should always do. this guy will be brought to justice! God bless!!
This is a sad situation. I hope when caught that this person is give the death penalty. He should not be allowed to be housed, fed and treated by the tax payers dollars.
This is an animal and should be treated as an animal. I am for a fair trail and justice. But, this calls for a swift trail.
If found guilty they needto imediately carry out the sentence.
The death penalty as it now administered is a joke. The lawmakers of our state should review it and put some bite back into it and all laws.
@ Shirley:
There’s no way to tell WHAT gun (or guns) from bullets alone. You know the caliber. Unless the evidence is quite distinctive police can’t tell who manufactured the gun, let alone ID a specific gun. Only after you FIND a weapon can ballistics determine that it fired the bullets that killed victims.
If they even have fingerprints, there’s obviously not a match in the database or we’d have a name. Someone who hasn’t been convicted of a crime before wouldn’t be in the database.
In addition, you can run a search for all Explorers in the area but what if the truck is out of state? What if the killer is driving something else?
What I’m saying is expecting a serial killer who targets victims while no witnesses are close enough to even hear gunshots to be caught in a week is a LITTLE unrealistic.
Having lived in the Maryland suburbs during the killing spree of the DC sniper, when everyone was looking out for a “white work van,“ (while the killers were in a car with a small hole made in the back to shoot out of, enabling the second killer to immediately drive away), I can tell you that having ALL the resources of several major police depts., hundreds of “leads,“ at least 2 state police, the FBI, etc, and a very large reward fund did not catch these guys in a week.
I have lived in Cowpens for 2 years and in Cherokee County for 11 years and have never once seen anything like this. I’m scared to death! My husband tells me not to worry but I can’t help myself. I don’t sleep at night and I’m always looking out my windows wondering if that idiot is going to come to my house next. I just want him caught. I don’t want to down grade our police officers but I don’t think we can handle it. People can say whatever they like but if we were in a big town this man would have been caught by now that is honestly what I think. Where are the finger prints?? Whos name is this gun registered too?? I mean come on what is the problem?? Why is he still out there?? How many Ford Explorer Sport gold or Slilver in color are there in Cherokee County??
I love Cowpens and I love raising my 3 kids here but what is the problem? Why isn’t he caught??
My heart goes out to all the families that has lost family member during this time.

I would like for this coward to meet me in a dark alley without his gun and see what happens. I can only imagine what these families are going through.
I have made a group page on Facebook called “In Loving Memory of Abby Tyler” This is here to write whats on your heart about Abby & her father, and for the community to come together and pray and celebrate the life that Abby had lived. She was such an inspiration and this is the least that I could do. My prayer is with the family of all the lost ones.
My brother and I have also created a magnet/sticker of a support ribbon that we are going to begin to make. So far, we only have the example picture of what it looks like but we can add actual names on them if you would like. It is black and gold (Gaffney colors) with a gold cross, and written in white is “In Loving Memory” it started as just a picture that we added to our facebook pages encouraging others to do the same, in order to support the families and friends.

i also went to school with abby and her sister megan. though we were not the best of friends those two girls were always together and always had smiles on there faces and loved life. both of the girls were some of the nicest people you could have ever met. my heart goes out to megan; ive prayed for her everyday. losing her sister and dad at the same time. its horrifying. i can only imagine what that family is going through. this man has to be stopped. he has to be caught. its starting to feel like a horror movie in this town. we can’t sleep without wondering where that man is, can’t leave the house without wondering where he’ll strike next. Our community is too close and for something this tragic to happen, it’s effected everyone. i’m only a teenager and to see the fear in peoples eyes because of this man…its scary* but i encourage everyone to pray. this is something that God has in store and has a plan for. this is happening for a reason. Satan may have that man in his grip but God has this community is his grip. God is bigger than Satan and this serial killer. God is bigger and he can save us from this tragic event. pray!!!!!!!
