The North Carolina Department of Corrections said Tuesday that accused Gaffney serial killer, Patrick Burris, at one time worked with Jerry Case, 52, the man accused of kidnapping a Gaston County, NC couple.
Keith Acree, department spokesperson, said the two men worked for the same private company in a work release program for about two weeks in December 2007.
Acree also said the two served time together, for about a year and a half, in the Gaston Correctional Center.
But Acree said, there’s no way to know if the men actually knew each other while in prison, or in the work release program.
Case is currently in fair condition at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to the hospital. He was shot this weekend, trying to run from deputies in Cherokee County.
Deputies say Case was already out on parole for a murder conviction when he kidnapped a man, his daughter and two grandchildren in Gaston County, NC. The man, William Payne, and his family escaped at a gas station in Cherokee County Saturday.
Payne told WSOC in Charlotte that Case had a gun… and he was planning to use it.
“Pulled the hammer back and I didn’t even hear it. He said, “move, dude and you are dead,“ said William Payne. “He would have killed us ain’t no doubt.“
Investigators said Case is charged with four counts of kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill and assault with intent to kill a deputy. The State newspaper is reporting federal officials are also getting involved in the investigation.

I beg to differ just a bit with “Davidsgirl” comment that prayer is the only thing that will save us. It certainly can’t do any harm. I believe there is a battle presently underway between good and evil, holy and the unholy, as prophesized in the good book. I don’t want to quote too much scripture here because I’m just not qualified in that field. However, not to disagree that prayer will help, I am more in favor of going out to meet our enemies head on, face to face and be ready to deal out raw justice. I really believe if the good people continue to hide behind locked doors, then the bad people (evil) will eventually win. Take up arms and don’t be afraid to confront evil and wipe it from the face of this earth.  Through it into the abyss and be done with it. The world is rapidly becoming the playground of the devil and we need good men to reverse the trend. Don’t consider the consequences of doing good deeds but fear the wrath of God for allowing evil to reign. Let’s go out and meet our enemy and do battle on their turf, otherwise our wives and kids will continue to be victimized and afraid to walk down the street. I remember growing up and don’t remember evil being around every corner or afraid to answer the door. Enough is enough.

This is not a “new” criminal.  This man has been a criminal since 1986 and has slipped through the cracks until now.  Both this guy and Tracy Burris were both released back into society by the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections. There is where we need to be seeking answers.

What is going on with all these crimes and dumb criminals? I have never in my life saw such mess as these newest criminals are putting out. Do people think that they can just commit a crime and get away with it? This man is about to spend life in prison for the dumbest crime in history;that is if you don’t count the Patrick Burris cases. Prayer is the only thing that is gonna save us from this world of crime and evil
