The police officer injured in the chase has been released from the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect, William Alexander has also been released and is in the detention center, awaiting a 4pm bond hearing.

The Sheriff’s Office has charged Alexander with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill, and Failure to Stop for Blue Light. He has also been charged with DUI, by Highway Patrol. There is a hold on him for the city, which means he will be facing charge(s) from the police, but no word on what those will be.

**Tuesday 11:15am Update**

Anderson Police say William Alexander is being held after the chase Tuesday morning that ended with a crash outside Anderson School District 5 headquarters.

APD spokesman Randall Williams says the pursuit ended in Anderson County Sheriff’s Office territory and that agency will determine the charges Alexander will face. Williams says Anderson Police and the S.C. Highway Patrol may also add charges in the incident.

An Anderson Police report says the situation began when a witness reported a parked delivery truck for Anderson Auto Parts was hit at 508 South Main Street. The SUV kept going after the collision and had a tire going down when it was spotted by an officer crossing over Earle Street.

The officer says the vehicle was being driven erratically and the driver was struggling to maintain control.

The suspect didn’t stop after police turned on their blue lights. They followed the vehicle into Anderson County where deputies joined the pursuit.

News Channel 7 will update this story

A chase ended Tuesday morning with a crash that sent both an officer and a driver to the hospital. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said the pursuit ended near the SC-28 Bypass at the intersection with Standridge Road. That crossing was reopened to traffic about four hours after the accident.
Deputies said Anderson city police officers started following a Toyota Highlander just after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. They said the driver kept going down Market Street and got a flat tire. The Toyota eventually hit a sheriff’s office cruiser during the chase. The driver kept going until the Toyota ran over some stop sticks but not before hitting the back of an Anderson Police car.
Captain Derek Roland of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said, “They had slowed him down with stop sticks, but he intentionally rammed the city patrol car.“
Deputies say the suspected driver then smashed into a brick sign for Anderson County School District Five. The Anderson City Police Officer was taken to the hospital, but News Channel 7 was told he will be okay.
The suspect was also taken to AnMed health. His name and the full list of charges against the driver have not been released.
