55-year-old Larry Dean Casey pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.  From a news release from Solicitor Trey Gowdy, Casey admitted he stabbed 20-year-old Kimberly Murphy and tried to hide her body in a wooded area.  Nine days after the September 7th 2007 murder, Casey reported the crime, and told police he used an ice pick to kill Murphy in self-defense. Principal Deputy Solicitor Barry Barnette said “I’m pleased that we were able to resolve the case without putting the Murphy family through the stress of a trial”.  Casey will serve 85 percent of the prison sentence before he is eligible for release.
