Daycare Operator Charged With Neglect
Published: October 10, 2009
A Chesnee woman has been arrested after police say she abused a young child.
Gena Lynn Grigg, of Chesnee, was arrested Friday by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with unlawful neglect of a helpless person.
According to our coverage partners with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the child’s mother told deputies that Grigg, who operates a daycare, has taken care of the two-year old child for about a year and observed bruises on the child’s chest, neck and head. The mother told officers that she did not send the child back for two days, but placed a digital recorder in the child’s bag and reportedly it recorded Grigg using profanity, threatening to break the child’s toe and saying she “hates” the child.
Grigg has been released on $10,000 bond from the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

No one wants their child harmed whether it’s physical or emotional. That especially includes me. But from personal experience with Mrs. Grigg who was an absolute angel to me when my daughter was a baby. It’s hard to believe the person I know could be capable of harming a child. She kept my baby and I had not one problem arise. I know all have bad days and things are said in haste that we all wish we could take back. My prayers are with the child and his family as well as Gena’s family as they go through this very difficult time.
I agree with both of yall, only thind id do diffrent is the daycare woman wouldnt be in the hospital she’d prolly be in a morg.. what happened people cant pick on someone there own size they have to jump on someone who is helpless??? PATHETIC!!!!
AMEN!! DeeterJ!!!!! Headlines would have read “Day Care worker in hospital” Mother in jail.
I don’t know that I could have been as “generous” as this Mom in letting the authorities handle the situation.
If I knew for certain….without any doubt that someone had abused my toddler….. ‘fraid MY mugshot would have been posted…...not theirs.
