Firefighters Fight Blaze at 100-Year-Old Mill in Una

Una firefighters will return to the scene of Monday night’s fire to try to determine the cause of the fire. Chief Jeff Hadden tells News Channel 7 that it is possible they may never determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters have contained a mill fire Spartanburg County. The fire broke out about 7 o’clock p.m. Monday at the old Saxon Fibers Mill on Sibley Street in the Saxon Community. The mill has been abandoned for several years. According to fire officials, the blaze started in the the air conditioner units on the roof of the old mill. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out the top of the building, and three alarms were sent out for additional units. Firefighters say there are no signs of arson. The mill has not been used for some time, but it is more than 100 years old.
