The Greenville Sheriff’s Office say Monday at 3:15, three girls ages 5, 9 and 10 were walking home from Welcome Elementary School, when the girls say an attempted abduction took place at the intersection of South Welcome Road and La Rosa Lane.

They told police and their parents, a light gray Honda Accord pulled up alongside the children.

They say the car stopped and a man opened the door and grabbed the arm of one of the girls. He called for them to get in.

The girl who was grabbed was able to break free of the suspect and all three girls ran toward their homes.

The girls say they had never seen the man before.

The mother of one of the victims told NewsChannel 7, she is lobbying for a bus to be provided for the 16 children in her trailer park she says go to the school. She says officials have denied that request, because they live too close to the school.

The oldest girl who came face to face with the suspect, told us, she is fearful of walking to or from school from now on, and hope deputies catch this man.

Police have released the following sketch and descirption.

Suspect Description:

Hispanic male
20-30 years old
Medium height and weight
Black hair
Clean shaven, scar and bump on long nose
Tatto on right arm of a dragon or snake, a heart and letters ACY

Suspect Vehicle: 80’s model light gray Honda Accord 4 door, dent on driver’s door and rear driver’s side door, possible North Carolina tag with the letters ARC, new rims, brown sticker with a partial word “SARY” on the rear glass

During a traumatic event the human brain is in no way predictable. There are no to traumatic events that are the same. Although the label is the same, they are not. A person can rape two people the same way, but it will effect the ones that are raped differently. If you are in an accident, in some cases, it will seem as if the accident happened in slow motion. The brain identifies the tramatic event and tries to safe guard reality or self preservation by blocking, in some cases and then slowly feeding it back (sometimes within a few minutes and sometimes in years or possibly never). Therefore, no two events are the same as far as ones brain goes.
The victims in this case could very easily remembered all the details and they could be wrong about some of them. Traumatic events effect each of us differently.
There may not be enough evidence or information to locate the subject, but I would not risk not safe guarding the children. Send a bus… if that is what it takes to make the area safer, then a bus should be used. A bus probably passes by there anyway.
There are predators out there lurking at all times. Looking for an opening to strike. How often are children abducted? According to AMBER WATCH, its every 40 seconds. Now the majority are relatives, but there are a large number of non relative abductions. We really don’t think about it until it happens to us.

I sure hope I am wrong…or maybe the police are not telling us something..But this story is missing something…Oh yes, he had on sunglasses so what color are his eyes…yep that’s it, the sketch doesn’t have the sunglasses on!

I thought he had on sunglasses. How do they know what his eyes look like if he had on sunglasses??

To 417ts:  We are not saying that this is impossible, just highly improbable. Highly, HIGHLY improbable that they remembered such detail! NEW rims! My opinion, for what it is worth, is that they were coached by the adults in this family for the purpose of securing a bus to take them to school. Now what if…the police were to find a man who vaguely fit this description and arrested him? If you remember the infamous Susan Smith case, where she claimed a carjacker took her two boys, she fabricated an elaborate description of a black man. Even did a composite sketch of the guy. Police arrested a local who fit the description and he had a hard time proving his innocence!! If this IS a scheme to get the bus then the adults involved should be punished severly.I am wondering if there were any witnesses who saw the vehicle or who saw the children running for home as they said they did. Unless this is a desolate area someone must have seen SOMETHING. We will keep our minds open but you need to do the same.

I know the area as well. If you think children in these days and times are not capable of fabricating a story..THINK AGAIN! Children today are not the children of 30,20, or even 5 years ago. They have been exposed to some things we could never have imagined at that age.  And have you forgotten “Balloon Boy?“ He was easily coached. Just keep your mind open, that’s all.

I know the area—my brother went to school there some years ago and my aunts still live in that area. Usually if someone is experiencing trauma they will be in shock and could not possilby remember all the details that was given in this case.  Even an adult would have a hard time giving that much detail.  I still think there is something amiss here.

These comment areas are a self-indulgent waste of time but I wanted to take a moment to respond to the massive denial going on in this forum. To pwilliams, felix, taja, frosty, and whomever else, how possible do you think it is, for children to fabricate a story about a man saying he is going to ‘make them his girls,‘ without having experienced trauma? You all seem quite oblivious to the high crime rate in Greenville. As long as people deny it, it will get worse. Do you know the Welcome Elementary area? If not, I suggest that you spend some time on White Horse Road and in that area, and get a real good feel for it.

You are right….these stories do not even match.

According to the news last night it wasn’t the 10 year old but one of the younger ones whose arms he grabbed. The 10 year old was the one telling the story of what happened…
