Hurricane Bill: Waves Expected At 35 Feet
Published: August 21, 2009
MIAMI (AP) - In advance of one of the last weekends of summer,
forecasters are warning boaters and swimmers from northeastern
Florida to New England.
Hurricane Bill is expected to bring waves as high as 35 feet off
the New England coast.
The storm’s most immediate threat is to Bermuda, which is under
a hurricane watch.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds have weakened slightly to
near 120 miles an hour. Forecasters say the hurricane is becoming
less organized, but could still regain some strength. Bill is
expected to start gradually weakening tomorrow.
The National Hurricane Center’s five-day track shows Bill
staying well out to sea and only coming close to landfall in
Canada’s Maritime Provinces before veering back out into the north
Atlantic.
