Storms Possible Wednesday in Carolinas

Thunderstorms are likely through the afternoon with damaging wind gusts and penny-sized hail a possibility with any severe weather.  There is currently strong upper level energy helping storms to fire in NC, and a windshift line near the midlands that is helping storms along south of I-85.

A front to the west will slowly move our way overnight to switch the wind direction from the southwest to the north.  As temps cool this evening, the severe weather threat will end but showers and a few rumbles of thunder will still be possible until the windshift occurs.  This will happen by early Thursday to bring an end to our rain chances for Thursday with the exception of a few late day storms that will be possible near the deeper humidity in the southern Upstate.

A line of thunderstorms pounded portions of Spartanburg County Tuesday evening. One of the hardest hits areas was along Highway 11 near Campobello.

One man had a tree split in half and thrown into his yard.

Duke Energy crews were dealing with hundreds of outages overnight, but there were only scattered homes and businesses without electricity by 10:00am Wednesday.
