The man accused of killing television news anchor Anne Pressly was back in court on Thursday where a judge declared him competent to stand trial.

A defense hired psychiatrist who screened Curtis Vance several months ago testified that he had concerns about his mental fitness, but found no reason Vance couldn’t stand trial. The defense tried to prove that Vance was brain damage due abuse he suffered during his childhood. No medical records were presented to prove the claims.

Vance is charged with beating Pressly to death last October.

Pressly grew up in Greenville.

Vance will be back in court on July 28th.
