**Update Tuesday 7:30 a.m.**
An incident report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office identifies the man who drowned as Loftis Howard Thompson of Saluda.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says a man drowned in the Green River Sunday night.
They say the responded to Shady Lane in the Mill Springs Community just before 11 p.m.
The two men had driven to a remote location to fish.
Deputies say one man had fell in the river and the other tried to save him, but couldn’t revive him.
The medical examiner has ordered an autopsy and the preliminary results should be back in a few days.
