Columbia, S.C. - August 18, 2009 Attorney General Henry McMaster announced today that John Richard Sherrill, II, 24, of 111 Thornhill Court in Greenwood, was arrested on August 17, 2009, in an Internet Predator sting conducted by the City of Mauldin Police Department.

The Mauldin Police Department is a member of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Sherrill was arrested on two (2) counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor (§16-15-342), a felony offense punishable to ten (10) years imprisonment on each count.

Arrest warrants allege that Sherrill solicited sex on the Internet from an individual he believed to be a thirteen (13) year old girl. In reality, he was soliciting sex from an undercover Mauldin Police officer.

Sherrill was assigned a $30,000 bond. A booking photo is available through the Greenville County Detention Center.

A search warrant executed on Sherrill’s residence resulted in the seizure of a desktop and a laptop computer. The City of Abbeville Police Department (also a Task Force member) and the City of Greenwood Police Department also assisted in the case.

This is the one hundred sixty-eighth (168th) arrest for the Task Force.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.

In the first place these young people should not EVER be talking trash to people on the internet. If they are engaging in sex talk online you can just imagine what they are doing in the real world. So the so called “innocent” are really not so innocent here. I am not opposed to prosecuting the adults who try to lure these kids in but I think each time an arrest is made in a real case (not a sting) the kid’s computer should be checked to see what they were saying to the preditor. If they were all for it then they should go to juvinile hall or whatever they do with kids these days.
