MySpace Removes 2,100 NC Sex Offenders

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - More than 2,100 sex offenders in North Carolina have been found and removed from the social networking Web site MySpace.
    Attorney General Roy Cooper said Tuesday the site provided names, computer IP addresses and e-mail addresses of North Carolina sex offenders who had profiles on the site. Cooper has requested similar information from social networking site Facebook.
    Overall, MySpace has identified and removed 90,000 sex offenders from its site. Facebook has said more than 5,550 convicted sex offenders were found and removed from its site between May 1, 2008 and Jan. 31, 2009.
    Cooper and Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal have led efforts to make such sites safer for young users. A state law in effect since December 2008 bans convicted sex offenders from using social networking sites where children are members.
