COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The NAACP has met with celebrities and others in the movie industry to pressure South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds in Columbia.
South Carolina NAACP President Lonnie Randolph says the civil rights group met over the weekend with leading actors and at least one movie studio consultant. They talked about plans that would discourage making films in the state until the flag is removed.
Also on Tuesday, Governor Sanford said he wouldn’t broker any compromises aimed at removing the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds.
Randolph says Sanford hasn’t been involved in efforts on the flag since taking office and he is not surprised that won’t change.
