Six Year Old Girl Shot And Killed In Accidental Shooting

Deputies are calling it a tragic accident. And as a result, a six year old girl is dead.

They say the young child was shot and killed, after a gun, held by the girl’s uncle went off inside a home.

It happened Friday on Johnson Lake Road in the Whitestone community. That’s near Pacolet.

Six year old Madison Lawrence of Woodruff was visiting her uncle at his home.

As the uncle was unloading his handgun inside, deputies say it accidentally went off, shooting Madison in the face.

Major Dan Johnson with the Spartanburg County Sheriffs Office said, “the tragedy of the whole thing is, he knew the child was coming to the residence, and was in the process of rendering the weapon safe.“

The girl died at the hospital.

No charges have been filed as of yet against the uncle.

I think that there should not have been a gun in the house with a small child anyways..who in there right mind would have a loaded gun in the house he should have at least took it outside to unload it if he knew madison was coming…my thoughts and prayers goes out to madisons family my husband and i knew both the mother and father we are real sorry for there lost….i know nothing can take away that pain…

This is Madison’s father. I just want everyone to know that the victim is Madison, not her uncle. Please remember that. And also, the gun shouldn’t had ever been brought out. He knew my daughter was there, and he knew she was fixing to walk thru the door. He should have had the gun pointed at himself, went outside, or not had it out around my child at all. Please remember our family in your prayers and thanks for all your kind words.
