Spartanburg County deputies have a teen in custody following two separate robberies and a rape, they say happened Tuesday night.
Only NewsChannel 7 was there when 19-year-old Milciades Alcantara of Duncan, was arrested following a traffic stop on Highway 290 near I 85 by Duncan Police late Tuesday night. He was found in a dark red Toyota Camry, matching the description the crime victims gave.
Deputies say Alcantara has confessed to robbing the Ultra Tan tanning salon located at 2099 E. Main Street in Duncan.
Officials also say the teen confessed to raping a female employee inside. The victim, in her late teens, was alone at the time of the incident. She was taken to the hospital and treated.
Investigators say Alcantara left physical evidence at the scene that will help their investigation.
Deputies also say Alcantara confessed to a later robbery at a Subway restaurant on Highway 101 in Greer.
The police reports say in both robberies, he threatened those inside with a knife.
Alcantara faces multiple charges of kidnapping, rape, weapons charges and other crimes. He is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond.
He had nothing to say during a noon time bond hearing.
Meanwhile, the Ultra Tan salon did not want to comment for this story.

What could possibly be “more to this than meets the eye”? A fight with his girlfriend, money problems?? We’ve all been there and a normal person does not react by robbing and raping. He may play softball and he may even go to church, but I’d say that he had you and everyone else fooled. It sickens me that ANYONE would waste an ounce of sympathy on a person such as him. He may have ruined his “bright future”, but it was his own choice, his own doing. He absolutely destroyed a young girl’s life for many years to come, possibly forever.I understand that someone who knows him would be shocked if they did not see this side of him, but please, please do not trivialize his actions by gushing about what a great person he really is. I have a 20 year old daughter who happens to work at a local Ultra Tan and I have not had a moment of peace since this happened - Thanking God that he did not choose her store last night, and at the same time feeling guilty for being thankful that he did not. I cannot imagine the pain and sufferering that the young lady and her family are enduring right now. Please continue to pray for them, they are going to need all of the prayers and support possible. What they will not need is to hear or read people offering sympathy to the person that has permanently altered this young girl’s life.
This “creature” was honestly one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He played on a church softball team with me and was a big baseball prospect. He had his entire life in front of him, but ruined it Tuesday night. He put up a great front. I was shocked when i saw him in court on t.v. All I could do was cry. Mitch, as we called him, had a girlfriend that he loved and treated like a princess. For him to rape a girl is beyond me. There has to be more to this than meets the eye. It just doesn’t make since. It is amazing how quickly someone can turn, but apparently he did this or else he wouldn’t have confessed. I am deeply sorry for all parties involved. I will be praying for you.
Thank you for the explanation. that does make me feel better. I squinted to see if the officer had a gun, and I saw a holster and assumed there was a gun. I was just most surprised to see him walking freely into the room. I have seen other criminals on the news show up in court in cuffs and/or shackles and given the nature of this crime, I was expected the same here. thanks again.
To clarify, he is a detention officer not a police officer. Also they are inside the detention center where officers arent allowed to carry guns so it is an empty holster. the doors of the facility are controlled electronically from a central control room.So the only thing he could have done was get his butt kicked for even attempting anything due to the testy, tired detention officers that were probably working a double shift and looking for a reason to work out their frustrations. No one was in danger. this punk is where he belongs so he cant hurt anyone else.Lets just hope that the court system does its job and keeps him there.
“Alcantara faces multiple charges of kidnapping, rape, weapons charges and other crimes. He is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond. “
Kidnapping, rape, armed robbery - did anyone else find it strange that this creature was not cuffed and shackled during his hearing? Watch the video again and pay attention as he and the police officer are leaving the courtroom. The police officer walks AHEAD of him, leaving this monster unguarded and completely free to grab his gun. Even if there were others in the room, his hand was inches away from the cops holster. What in the world were they thinking. This thug has already proven that he is violent and after just being told by the judge the prison term he is facing, he could have easily thought that he had nothing to lose by grabbing the gun and going out in a blaze of glory.
I agree with “OneInAMillion” and couldn’t have said it better than they did…
NOW YOU KNOW WHY I “CARRY”. CWP PERMIT #xxxx5478
I am sickened by what has happened. I agree with the other comment about a key code to have assess in the building. I know these girls and my heart ackes for her. I am a customer at the Duncan location. This makes me re-think about getting my gun permit.
If this could happen on a busy road with ample traffic, what is next? I hope this punk gets put away for long time. He needs to be prosecuted to full extent of the law. ULTRA TAN let this be a wake up call!!!!
These young girls need a lot more protection than pepper spray. I am absolutely livid over this incident to the point where I have not been able to fall asleep. I am a customer of Ultra Tan and I have commented to the manager of more than one of these stores that they were not doing enough to protect their employees, which are mainly young, attractive females. These young ladies work alone until sometimes as late at 10:00 p.m. Some of these salons are in remote locations with no other stores that are open at that time. It is a shame and disgrace that a company puts the bottom dollar ahead of the safety of their employees. An employee has the right to work in a safe environment. I hope that Ultra Tan gets hit hard in the pocketbook over this incident (not that it will make much of a difference to the poor young lady who was assaulted), but hopefully will wake them up and force them to take measures to protect their employees by scheduling more than one receptionist, installing safety measures such as an under the counter panic button, or even locking the door after dark and require a card/key for member entry. The cost of the above seems so trivial now, compared to what this young lady will be dealing with the rest of her life. Why does it take something like this to happen first? You would think in this day and age that no one would dare feel comfortable enough to think that “it could never happen to us”.
I feel like if a woman is working in a business after dark they should be able to carry a can of “PEPPER SPRAY”, to try to prevent inncidents like this. The employee needs to be able to protect herself.
