Salvation Army Collects School Supplies For Low Income Families

Greenville, SC – The Salvation Army of Greenville County is collecting new school supplies for its annual back to School Drive through July 31st.

The Back to School Drive provides school supplies to an annual average of 200 children from low-income families annual right here in Greenville County.
Every August, single-parent and low-income families struggle to equip their children for a new school year. Each year, The Salvation Army supports these families by distributing donated school supplies. Given the current economic downturn, The Salvation Army anticipates an increase in demand for this service.
“We’ve seen a real increase of families in need of our support as a result of the current economic climate,” said Major Bobby Lancaster, Salvation Army Area Coordinator. “The downturn has emptied parent’s pockets. They need your support to ensure that their kids are well equipped with supplies to succeed in school.  The Back to School Drive is a wonderful program that brings people in our community together to provide school supplies to children who need them most” continues Lancaster..
Individuals, companies, service clubs and other groups are encouraged to host a supply drive to collect most commonly-needed school supplies (see list below), which The Salvation Army will then pack into backpacks and distribute to needy children throughout Greenville County for the 2009-2010 school year.
