COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Investigators are getting thousands of
pages of documents from South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford that are
at the heart of a State Ethics Commission probe into his ethics and
campaign finance practices.
Sanford lawyer Butch Bowers told The Associated Press Tuesday
that the commission requested on Sept. 1 documents that were the
basis of AP investigations into the governor’s use of state,
commercial and private aircraft.
Bowers says the commission received an initial batch of
documents Friday and will receive the rest Tuesday.
Ethics Commission Executive Director Herb Hayden confirmed he’d
received records by e-mail Friday that included personal calendars
for two years.
Sanford’s travel has been under scrutiny since he revealed in
June a yearlong affair with a woman in Argentina.
