Spartanburg Begins Approval Process To Cleanup Victor Mills

Spartanburg County Council began the process Monday to formally authorize administrators to pursue up to $1.4 million in the form of a low-interest loan from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control for cleanup of the Victor Mill site in Greer, according to our coverage partners at the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

According to the report, the original amount the county planned to seek — and might still — was $1 million. The higher level elected officials approved is because removal costs and the county’s portion of matching funds haven’t been finalized, Assistant County Administrator Chris Story said. The final amount will be set before third reading of the ordinance.
