Spartanburg School District Seven Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday evening to extend the contract of superintendent Dr. Thomas White.

By a 9-0 vote at a special called meeting, board members extended White’s contract by one year, through 2013. According to a press release, White’s salary remains unchanged.

“Dr. White should be praised for his performance and his plan for leadership succession,“ said Vernon Beatty, Board of Trustees Vice-Chairman. “I think he’s done a terrific job, and I strongly believed District 7 is headed in the right direction.“

An initial deadline to extend White’s contract was extended in October in order to grant the board additional time to perform his evaluation, discuss his contract and discuss a future leadership transition. In 2008, District 7 received an “Excellent” rating for improvement on the district’s report card.

“We have always had a history of outstanding leadership in this district,“ said Dr. White. “i believe our current administrative team at both the school and district level is second to none. With the exception of one school, there is a news principal in each building. The District 7 community and trustees have clearly articulated very high expectations for excellence.“
