Trial Begins For Man Accused of Killing Pregnant Girlfriend With Car

Investigators say Elder Dennis Potlow killed Dorothy White and Vanessa Vance, after ramming into their car on Church Street in Greenville County in April 2008.  Authorities arrested Potlow soon after the crash.  Vance was his pregnant girlfriend.  Potlow is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill.
Prosecutors say Vance was arguing with Potlow, when she jumped in a car with his mother.  Then Potlow followed them in another car, ramming the vehicle and shooting at them.  Then the car crashed.
Potlow’s mother, the woman who was behind the wheel, was the first witness to take the stand Monday.

Potlow’s mother, Elizabeth Burdine, was very emotional on the stand and said 911 operators wouldn’t answer and are partly to blame.
