Union County Council To Meet About Suspended Administrator’s Position

Union County Council will meet Tuesday evening to discuss what to do about the county’s supervisor position.
Last week, county supervisor Donnie Betenbaugh was suspended by Governor Mark Sanford after he was indicted on charges of conspiracy, woliciting bribes, extortion, distributing prescription drugs and allowing drugs to be stashed in the tax assessor’s office. Prosecutors claim that Betenbaugh used his position to extort money in kickbacks and buy property owned by Union County. He also allegedly sold drugs out of the tax assessors office and made money from the sale of hydrocodone and cocaine.
He was indicted along with four others, including former Sheriff Howard Wells and former Tax Assessor Willie Randall Jr.
Betenbaugh also served as the Chairman of Union County Council. The meeting is supposed to start at 5:30.

No one from Union should fill the supervisor position until all investigations are completed. More house cleaning is needed in this town. We especially do not need any of the people who are serving on the county council to fill the job. Let’s not forget that Donnie was the Chairman of Union County Council. Now that same council will “discuss what to do about the county’s supervisor position”. So they were not smart enough to catch on to the conspiracy, soliciting bribes, extortion, distributing prescription drugs, and allowing drugs to be stashed in the tax assessor’s office. BUT they are capable of choosing a replacement?! Union is a small place and these people know just about everyone. How could this go on without someone seeing or knowing something?
We just have to hope and pray no one from the present administration of county council will be selected to fill the position. We need a clean, fresh start. I wouldn’t hurt to have a special election to elect a totally new council except for the newest one. I don’t think she could be coerced into wrong doings. It is so hard to believe that the present council, her excluded, couldn not have known there were some illegal activities going on.
the best thing you people in union can do now is to give that job to someone outside of union for a short while but not someone smart enough to use you like you have been used,but oh no we cant do that some outsider might find out more secrets here and get the rest of us canned,put another good old boy in there or maybe some good old girl did they find out if there was any of them already in there oh investigation not over yet sorry
