Union Mom Arrested For DUI With Kids In Car
A Union mother is in trouble after deputies caught her driving under the influence with her children in the backseat.Published: October 7, 2009
Around Union, the Lil Cricket store on South Duncan Bypass is a corner for conversation. “The law is pretty good about getting drunks around here,“ says resident Stan Lawter. Something Lawter saw this week still has him talking. “They handcuffed her, put her in the car, and took her off.“ Union deputies arrested 40 year old Carolyn Henderson Friday afternoon. They busted the mother for DUI, while her three children were riding in the backseat.
Reports say Henderson had actually just picked the children up from Sims Middle School, when someone noticed her swerving in and out of traffic and called police. According to those same reports, the mother failed a field sobriety test. Deputies say she told them she had taken several Xanax before going to the school. Reports say she later refused to give a urine sample to deputies.
No one answered the door at Henderson’s home when Newschannel 7 showed up to talk to her. Back at the scene of the crime, Lawter has his own opinion. “I couldn’t see putting my kids at risk like that. It’s one thing to risk your own life and other people out on the road, but when you go risking kids’ lives, that ain’t right.“
Henderson was released from jail on bond. She’s charged with DUI and child endangerment.
In a late night development, News Channel 7 has learned that Henderson has been arrested in York County and is being charged with driving under the influence and driving under suspension. York County Jail officials say that she is being held on $1,649.50 bond.
