The price of gas continues to climb in the Upstate.

The average price for a gallon of regular fuel is $1.73 across Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg Tuesday according to AAA Fuel Gauge.

That’s an increase of about two cents in a day. One month ago, the same gallon of fuel sold for an average of $1.44

Asheville gas prices rose by nearly four cents from Monday to an average of $1.89 a gallon.

The price of oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange was $40.28 just before 11:00am Tuesday. The price of crude has been as low as $36.51 on January 15.

Economic contraction in 2009 and lower projected crude oil prices are expected to reduce annual average national retail gasoline and diesel fuel prices in 2009 to $1.87 and $2.27 per gallon, respectively according to the Energy Information Administration.
