Upstate Native And Former Soldier Speaks About Ft. Hood

    One Upstate native and former soldier says she first heard about the Ft. Hood attacks through a text message from her friend still stationed there.Jamie Perdue served in the army 15 years, did a tour in Iraq and spent 5 years at fort hood as a military police officer.
    Perdue returned to Anderson early Friday morning to ride in the “You Are Not Forgotten” motorcycle run to honor veterans. She said she had no idea she’d be thinking of Thursday’s loss.
    Perdue’s friend sent her text messages about what was happening as it unfolded.
    And Perdue said what was most surprising was to find out the suspected gunman was one of their own,
    “I just- my heart goes out to the people involved but, I don’t understand- being a soldier, I don’t understand what goes through your mind wanting to kill another soldier.“
