COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina defensive end Clifton Geathers has asked for a jury trial on charges stemming from a fight at a Columbia nightclub.
Geathers made the request before a hearing Friday in municipal court. He wasn’t in the courtroom.
Police arrested Geathers Aug. 23 and charged him with drunkenness, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Officers say he swung his arms wildly as he was arrested, and his booking photo showed his right eye swollen shut.
Geathers was suspended for Thursday night’s 7-3 win over North Carolina State, but the 6-foot-8, 281-pound junior will be eligible for the Georgia game on Sept. 12. He will be available to practice Saturday.
