A judge on Friday sentenced 20-year old Yolanda Thompson to life in prison without parole for the murder of a Union County High School student.

Prosecutors say Yolanda Thompson’s husband, Pernell, was infatuated with 16-year old Marisha Jeter. They say Yolanda told Pernell to prove his love for her by killing Jeter.

“She set this in motion and then helped her husband carry it out,“ said 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett.

In January 2008, the Thompsons lured Jeter to the YMCA parking lot where they beat her and stabbed her 33 times with a kitchen knife. They took her body to the Broad River near Lockhart, stripped off her clothes and covered her body with rocks. Then they set her car on fire.

After being confronted with evidence, the Thompsons confessed to the murder. They pleaded guilty earlier this year. Pernell Thompson was sentenced to life in prison in September.

At Yolanda’s sentencing on Friday, she sobbed as she asked Jeter’s family for forgiveness and asked the judge for mercy.

“I ask for forgiveness from the Jeter family and forgiveness from the entire community and from the people I have hurt,“ said Thompson, who has a 3-year old daughter.

The victim’s father, Manning Jeter, asked Judge Lee Alford to enforce the maximum sentence.

“She should get the same penalty her husband received,“ said Jeter. “They deserve to have to look at each other every day of their life for the rest of their lives in the same cage together.“

I am sorry for your loss and for all those who endure the loss of a loved one through such violent, despicable measures.  You are right God is the ultimate judge and jury and be rest assured that He will! God bless you and the Jeter family.

I’m sorry that this family had to suffer such a terrible loss. I know the fdeeling of losing a loved one to murder. There is no justice good enough for the person who takes the life of another. GOD is the only one who can give TRUE JUSTICE. One day the ones who took Marisha Jeter’s life along with Wanda Brown, Who took my father’s Richard Bryan’t life, will face the greatest judge of all. To the Jeter family, know that you will see your precious daughter again one day. I look forward to the day I see my father agian and can spend eternity with him.

Although the precious life of Marisha Jeter cannot be replaced, there is a grain of justice knowing these two cold-blooded killers will never taste freedom again.  A small consolation to the Jeter family for certain as these two should have had to endure what they put Marisha through!  Good decision judge!

I agree with all that DJ said. In one respect they will have things a lot easier than those of us on the outside. They won’t have to go to a job every day, or try in vain to FIND one. They won’t have to pay outrageous prices for health insurance like the rest of us not covered under a group plan, clean house, do yardwork, all sorts of unpleasant things they WON’T have to do. But the freedom is the kicker. They will have time…lots of time on their hands to think about what they have done, ample time for regrets…they will not be able to enjoy the simple things, like family and friends, like the rest of us…they will be in JAIL for the rest of their lives. That is NOT where I want to be, even with all the freebies they will be getting.

Two people PLAN and KILL a young girl.

Their punishment - life in prison - well… BIG FLIPPING DEAL!!! All that means is that they have to forfeit the right to come and go as they please…and that’s pretty much it!
They’ll have a roof over their heads, clothes, medical care, food, recreation, and probably even opportunities to further their education. It won’t cost either of them a dime. Punishment?? Hardly.

The saddest part - as taxpayers - members of that girl’s family will be footing the bill with the rest of us.

Such a slap in the face.
