BMW Manufacturing is donating $250,000 to The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

The $30 million building is under construction on Saint John Street and is expected to be completed in May 2010.

The three-story, 60,000-square-foot building is located adjacent to the Chapman Cultural Center.

“BMW has a longstanding commitment to advancing educational opportunities and economic development within our footprint. This vision is mutually shared by USC Upstate and we are glad to support this new facility in downtown Spartanburg,“ said Max Metcalf, Manager of Community Relations for BMW Manufacturing in a written statement.

Donors have contributed $13 million of the $14 million fundraising goal according to the school.

The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at USC Upstate currently enrolls nearly 850 majors and offers programs in business administration with concentrations in accounting, economics, marketing, and management.
