DHEC accepting entries for middle school environment competition
COLUMBIA - The entry deadline for Champions of the Environment’s Environmental Awareness Essay and Poster Competition is March 13, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“The Environmental Awareness Essay and Poster Competition is a great way for South Carolina’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to show off their creativity and environmental knowledge,” said Lynne LaSalle, coordinator for the Champions of the Environment program.
According to LaSalle, “What Being Green Means To Me” is this year’s theme. Students may submit entries in the poster or essay divisions. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
“First through third place winners in each division win cash ranging from $150 to $75,“ LaSalle said. “All winners will be recognized at the Champions of the Environment Year-end Celebration to be held April 30 at the South Carolina State Museum.“
The Champions of the Environment program recognizes and rewards students and teams who are protecting the environment and sharing environmental knowledge. The program is supported by Eastman Chemical Company, International Paper WCSC-TV, WIS-TV and DHEC.
