Spartanburg Bride Says Changing Name With Charter Was A Hassle

Newlyweds Janet and Tim Sanders were married in June in Spartanburg. Since then they have been taking care of officially changing Janet’s last name. They say it was pretty easy until they went to Charter Communications.

“(The Charter representative) says, ‘Here just sign this form, all you got to do is sign your new name here,‘ “said Mrs. Sanders. “She didn’t explain to me that this would open up a new account close your old account. None of that was brought to my attention.“

Mrs. Sanders said two days after she changed her name her cable and internet went out.

“My bill went up and they took away movie channels,“ said Mrs. Sanders. “I was so angry I went up (to Charter) to talk to the lady who did it and she says, ‘I apologize but when you change your name we have to close your account and open a new account’.“

7 On Your Side sent their complaint to Charter and Janet’s phone started ringing. She said Charter offered her a discounted monthly rate, had the service fee removed, and gave her back the movie channels she lost when she changed her name.

Charter’s Vice President, Anthony Pope, said he was not sure why the account was disconnected. He said name changes are a simple process that does not require an account be closed. He said he’s just glad their concern is completely resolved.

Now Janet and Tim can get back to living happily ever after.

“I am very thankful to you and WSPA for helping me out,“ Mrs. Sanders said.

They do take there precious time getting out to. 4 or 5 days later. I am looking for better service myself. But, since in my area is very much depends on limit service. And most people don’t want Dish/Direct TV because it goes out when storm hits. I have charter with Internet & Cable bundle. Most service would charge a disconnection fee. I never had problem for them to change my name but to show my driver license and that it. Why would they change or disconnect her service. They must did very much explain herself or the customer rep. did not get a good understanding of her. And in a way half of the time you get customer rep. on the phone and can’t speak english clearly. I just redial until I get one that does. It is very much an hassle as with everything else these days.

Changing your *name* is difficult with Charter?? Just try to get them to come out when your signal’s out because the connections aren’t sealed and heavy rain has flooded the lines in the neighborhood. They’ll be happy to make an appointment 4 or 5 days away for you, after everything’s dried out—and the tech won’t find *anything* wrong!!!

Thank heavens for DSL and DirecTV…
