Sons Of Confederate Vets Might Fight NAACP With Flags

The NAACP's effort to boost its boycott of South Carolina because of the Confederate flag is causing some confusion among flag supporters. The lieutenant commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans says the group has made an offer to a property owner to put up a giant Confederate flag along a busy Columbia highway in response to the NAACP. But the commander of the SCV says no offer has been made, only an inquiry, and the lt. commander is speaking for himself and not the group.

SCV Division Lt. Commander Don Gordon says, "We are negotiating with one property owner to put up a very large flag, and it's strictly in response to the NAACP."

Earlier in the day, he said the group hopes to add other large flagpoles to interstates across the state so drivers will "know they're in the South." But he later said that wasn't definite and would have to be voted on.

SCV Division Commander Randy Burbage says Gordon is speaking only for himself, because no decisions have been made about how to respond to the NAACP. As for the possibility of putting up a giant Confederate flag on a busy Columbia highway, Burbage says, "We haven't made any kind of movement toward that. All I had him (Gordon) do is inquire about it."

The NAACP announced at its convention this week a renewed boycott aimed at bringing down the Confederate flag. It's asking Hollywood actors and producers to join the boycott and not come to South Carolina to shoot any movies. State lawmakers passed a law that just went into effect July 1 to offer producers better incentives to make their movies in the state.

The Confederate flag originally flew on the Statehouse dome, but lawmakers reached a compromise in 2000 to move it to the Confederate Soldiers monument in front of the Statehouse. The NAACP says it won't be satisfied until the flag is off public property completely.

Two state lawmakers who worked on the compromise say it's unlikely they'll revisit the issue. Sen. John Courson, R-Columbia, released a statement saying, "The matter was resolved in 2000," and that he'd have no further comment. Senate president pro tempore Glenn McConnell, R-Charleston, says even if lawmakers brought the issue up again, the compromise that was passed requires a two-thirds vote to move the flag again, a vote that's very difficult to get.

Do you believe the Confederate flag should be removed from Statehouse grounds?

This nonsense needs to be stopped. We Southerners have as much right to be proud of our history and heritage as anyone else. And that’s what this is about, history and heritage, not racism.

The NAACP is not a Civil Rights organization any longer and if they ever were it was directed by the communist party. The organizationj was started by the Jews and was directed by them for many years. I believe the NAACP has ties to the communist party like MLK did. I guess this is why the records of MLK was sealed untill the year 2024. Maybe America will be controlled by the communist by that year and it would not matter that his records are opened.
The Battle Flag is something that must be removed so that the socialist/Communist will have no resistance to it’s government controlled activities. You can believe that who ever controls the money controls the activities of the USA. This is why the borders are wide open an no one is doing anything to stop the illegals from comming in. This should be red flag that goes up in everyones head….why is it not closed and both presidential hopefulls will do nothing to close it. We are Doomed unless many Americans wake up to what is happening in this country.

I hope that a piece of private land can be gotten to fly the venerated Confederate Battle Flag where many people can see it, both in Columbia and in Asheville. The NAACP has got to be “one-upped” on this. They asked for it by making such a stink about the flag.

The NAACP is a Yankee inspired group that deliberately denies any truths it gets. Interestingly the former President of the NAACP now knows the truth of the Southern history and the ST.Andrews Cross Battle flag (Christian flag) and now fights FOR the Flag. The NAACP org is just deliberately ignorant of truth and it shows in their every move. Truth and our Flag cannot be denied just because certain people are ignorant of truth.

Sounds like this Burbage fellow needs to develop some Intestinal Fortitude and learn how to command if he’s a Commander. Perhaps that SCV group can switch the Commander and the Lt. Commander and get things on the right track. Might be worth a try while they still have something left to defend.

The NAACP is like the little kid who if he cannot get to play marbles wants to take them all and go home. The compromise was enacted in 2000 was sensitive to both parties.. the NAACP and the SCV. Now that the boycott has failed to generate more attention and money, the NAACP wants to say that they were under-represented in this. The sad truth is that the flag is harmless. It never promoted racism nor hate (except for yankees). It was a soldiers’ flag , never an official government flag, and it is an INTERNATIONAL symbol of resistence to tyranny. It has flown over the fall of the Berlin wall as well as in Tinamen square in China! It has been maligned and co-opted to serve the narrow purposes of whatever racist flavour of the month wants it(Klan and NAACP and others equally!)  It is a dead issue as far as removal. Popular opinion and political support affirm that it is a dead issue.. It is part of a memorial now that should be treated with respect since ALL races fought under it from SC. Let’s move on to more important issues that have not been settled such as energy costs, illiteracy, illegal immigration , ending an illegal war in Iraq to name a few!Hollywood films will be made in SC because of money. The NAACP so-called tourism boycott failed . The film boycott is a farce, too.

I am so tired of the naacp griping about a flag they were blacks that fought in that war. It is A WAR FLAG. we have had them forever why can’t the blacks find something worth while to fuss about? but you can bet naacp gets all the coverage and the Confederacy and whites get little. The blacks get all the perks in SC now we whites are low on the pole and the blacks are still not happy. if you stop covering the naacp maybe they will shut up jessie the instigater jackson and naacp want to keep the whites in an uproar they don’t want peace.
