Report: Governor Sanford’s 1st Class Flights are Legal

Governor Mark Sanford’s lawyer said his client has the authority to buy business class plane tickets to travel overseas. the state’s comptroller general authorized such purchases in 1987 according to “The Greenville News” six years after regulations began requiring economy class.
A subcommittee led by Fountain Inn State Senator David Thomas is trying to find out if Sanford violated travel rules with six of his overseas flights.
Thomas called what happened under the Governor Carroll Campbell Administration irrelevant, because he thinks private money was used for those purchases. For more on this story click here.
