South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s trip to Argentina in June 2009 was not the first time he could not be tracked down. “The State” newspaper reported Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor could not contact Sanford by phone or email in June of 2008.
Another round of emails released by Sanford’s office showed the incident happened the same day the governor admitted seeing his mistress in Argentina.
The emails showed Sanford was eventually tracked down in South America. For more on this story, click here.
This email release is in response to Freedom of Information Act requests by News Channel 7 and other media outlets to the governor’s office. It released his calendars, his financial records and his emails. There are more than 3,300 pages of emails.
The emails show that Gov. Sanford also couldn’t be reached by his staff in June 2008, when he was in Argentina with his mistress. The state Commerce director was trying to reach the governor and couldn’t by phone or email, so he emailed the governor’s staff asking for a way to contact him.
