COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Senate’s top leader said calls for Gov. Mark Sanford’s resignation will mount if evidence emerges that he used state resources on his affair. Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell said Thursday the calls would only increase if it could be shown that Sanford deliberately tried to avoid transferring his authority while out of touch for four days. Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer said Wednesday he was not aware of any state funds being used in Sanford’s pursuit of an affair in Argentina. He said no state resources were used for travel arrangements. Sanford revealed the affair at a news conference Wednesday.

Normally this would be a personal issue of the Governor and his family. It became the business of South Carolina residences when the Governor left the state, and violated the public trust. Secondly, when he used taxpayer’s dollars for his affair. The Governor has made serious errors in judgment. I think the governor must resign. This is serious misconduct!
Governor Sanford has undermined his ability to effectively run the state.
He has lost his credibility. How can he lead? He needs to resign or be impeached!
its funny bacause last night at 6:30, there was a poll taken and people said he should not resign, now that money(our money to be exact) was mentioned, now you all scream resign. a week ago, there were people against the gay pride march. but yet some of those same people yelling don’t resign are some of the same ones that were against this march. can someone define hypocrite for me. maybe your definition is different in your world.
Just another official in a long line of government that has been caught doing this, I bet if you looked into it, theres alot more that’s doing the same, they just haven’t been caught doing it. And all doing it on the taxpayers dime! This will be the headlines for years to come, they all have abundant access to funds that allow them to do what they want, when they want, and it’s always hidden to the public until they get caught. Sanford is no different than all of the ones before him, and the ones that will follow him, Sex, Drugs, Scandles, are the way of the world, has been for years and will continue to be decades to come. No need for him to resign, He needs to get his priorities in order and do the job he was voted in to do.
i think all of the people who want mark sanford to resign should look in the mirror. let him who has not sinned cast the first stone. no won can. he deserves a chance to redeme himself.
Where is the public outrage? The governor must resign. He has violated the public trust, exercised terrible judgement, impulsively gone AWOL, and engaged in a sexual escapade using taxpayer’s dollars. This is very serious misconduct!
As a retired, command level, police official, I can attest to the fact that there would be disciplinary proceedings to terminate any sworn officer involved in such severe violations. A double standard can not be tolerated with the governor as it undermines the ability to effectively manage all other public employees.
Moreover, it is said that we get the government that we deserve and so far it seems that taxpayers are willing to acquiesce to this extraordinary dereliction of duty. That is a disastrous attitude which will have significant negative ramifications for the future of the State.
Sanford has no credibility anymore, so how can he lead? He needs to resign or be impeached!
I don’t think Govenor Sandford should resign. Franklin D. Roosevelt, JFk, and Bill Clinton didn’t resign from being president, so the govenor shouldn’t have to resign. People make mistakes and we shouldn’t kick him while he’s down. He should be forgiven.
I think Gov. Sanford should resign as S.C. Governor, and let Lieut. Gov. Andre Bauer take over the rest of his term as governor.
He is not the man he said he was when he kept referring to"family values” when he ran for Gov. of the state of S.C.
