Email: chenderson@wspa.com

Christy Henderson is the Chief Meteorologist for News Channel 7's Storm Team. She joined WSPA in 2003 and oversees all Storm Team 7 forecasts and on-air weather presentations. She can be seen on News Channel 7 at 5, 5:30 and 6 PM, CW News at 10 and News Channel 7 at 11:00. In addition to her television duties, she also forecasts the weather for two radio stations and two newspapers each day.

Christy's skills in forecasting weather are enhanced by the latest technology at Storm Team 7 – Live VIPIR. "VIPIR" is an acronym where each letter stands for a word. In this case it's "Volumetric Imaging and Processing of Integrated Radars". This means that Storm Team 7 can process information coming in live from seven different National Weather Service Doppler Radars – the most powerful in the Southeast – and examine the storms in three dimensions. VIPIR also enables the team to display forecasts of where storms may go and how they may change using VIPIR Futurescan.

Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Christy attended Texas A&M University and earned a B.S. degree in Meteorology in 1995. She began working in television upon graduating.

Christy's first job was in Waco, Texas. After 8 months of working weekends there she moved to New Orleans and worked at the Fox affiliate, WVUE for more than three years as the weekend meteorologist. It was there where she really became interested in studying tropical weather and she was on the air as Hurricane Danny moved across Plaquemines parish in Southeast Louisiana (1997) and when Hurricane Georges (1998) threatened the New Orleans and coastal areas before making landfall near Biloxi, Mississippi.

From New Orleans, Christy moved on to Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent 3 ½ years as the morning meteorologist on "Good Day Atlanta" and also broadcasted the weather during the noon show each day. Many celebrities stopped by the station for interviews and Christy did the weather with many of them including Donny and Marie, The Rock, Ed McMahon and Barney (the purple dinosaur!).

Christy has also freelanced in Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas. She has won Press Club and Associated Press awards for her presentations. Christy is a member of the American Meteorological Society and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, who was born in January of 2007. Christy and her husband are expecting another baby girl in late August. Pepper, the family dog, also keeps the family time exciting! She enjoys cooking, traveling and playing soccer.

Christy was named South Carolina Broadcaster's Association Weathercaster of the Year in 2005 and 2007 and was runner up for this award in 2006. She has been nominated for Weathercaster of the Year for 2008.
