I just don’t have the drive to come up with something compelling to write about on this 4th of July. Certainly there’s a ripe topic to blog about, but I just can’t bring myself to get serious on a holiday that also falls on a Friday. So with no further delay, I present my Top Five Guilty Pleasure Movies.

A Trip To Pearl Harbor And The Arizona
We went to Hawaii (thank you economic stimulus check) and between the sun, beaches, snorkeling and a luau; we had to make a trip to Pearl Harbor to see the Arizona Memorial. I think it’s something you must do if you’re every fortunate enough to visit Hawaii.

Lawmaker Performance vs. Voter Apathy
We ran a poll recently on wspa.com concerning your view on how our state lawmakers performed during the just completed General Assembly. The last time I looked at the figures from that nonscientific survey it was around 90% unfavorable for those men and women and the work they do in Columbia.

Jim McKay: An Original, Giant of a Broadcaster
Jim McKay died over the weekend at the age of 86 and it’s another reminder that those of us who are older than 40 are seeing our days passing us by a little quicker. McKay was a tremendous sports broadcaster and yet he wasn’t a guy you ever associated with football, baseball or basketball as he worked for decades for ABC Sports.

An Afternoon With Indiana Jones
I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull over the weekend with my wife. Normally you’d think it’s hard to convince a woman to see an all-out action festival, but she’s a big Harrison Ford fan. The bottom line is probably this: if you liked the first three Indiana Jones movies, you’ll like this one.
