A bill introduced by Spartanburg Sen. Shane Martin would allow those with concealed weapons permits to have their guns on school grounds, as long as the guns are locked in vehicles.

One of the bills would ban the use of cell phones while driving unless you use a hands-free device. It would also make it illegal to text while driving.

The report released Friday by Mayors Against Illegal Guns says 30 percent of guns traced by federal agents in 2006 and 2007 as part of crime investigations were bought in another state. It says states with lax gun laws are largely to blame for illegal guns that cross state borders.

Friday and Saturday, there will be no sales tax charged on handguns, rifles and shotguns.

The state will waive the sales tax on handguns, rifles and shotguns on Nov. 28-29.

Teon Thomas, along with Lucas Bell and others, stole 31 guns from a firearms dealer in Taylors, S.C., the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
