Every year many people are interested to know if their name is on the list of hurricanes.  How do we come up with the names, and it there a request line to get yours on there?  Read on!

An increase in the number of tropical systems is less climate change and more technology change.

El Nino was announced to be officially back as of July 9th.  What is El Nino and what does it mean to us? 

The Atlantic/Gulf hurricane season starts on June 1.  If you believe in “pre-season” forecasts and outlooks, then the current outlooks may not tell us much.

State and local officials who are in the path of any oncoming tropical system always have a tough call on their hands.  Remember that safety concerns come first, and as aggravating and inconveniencing as these measures may be, the alternative could be a lot worse.

The peak of hurricane season runs from mid-August through mid-October, so the recent increase in stormy weather through the Tropics should really come as no surprise.

As the travels of Fay have reminded us, forecasting tropical weather is a tricky endeavor…and slight shifts can have large effect down the road.  That’s how one can go from expecting heavy rain to a situation where rainfall is more questionable.
