South Carolina is requiring Medicaid patients suspected of doctor-hopping for drugs to choose one pharmacy for all prescriptions.

The state of South Carolina has received over $328 million dollars from the federal stimulus as of Wednesday morning. The vast majority of those dollars have gone to the Department of Health and Human Services for Medicaid.

State auditors say South Carolina has failed to properly manage a $52 million Medicaid transportation program that takes patients to medical appointments.

There are billions of dollars in the stimulus plan for states’ Medicaid programs. South Carolina’s share is supposed to be about $173 million, but Washington says the state is ineligible for the money.
