State officials have upgraded the drought status of five South Carolina counties, saying their water shortages are the most severe possible.

Greenville, Spartanburg, Oconee, Pickens and Cherokee counties are in “extreme drought,“ a label one official said had not been issued in the state since 2002.

Inman Tried To Make Weapon In Prison, File Says

A legal file says the man charged in the strangling death of a Clemson University student may have used a broken radio to fashion a knife to injure detention officers.
Jerry Buck Inman has been in a private cell in Pickens County awaiting a death penalty trial for two years. But The Greenville News reported Sunday that a warrant in Inman’s legal file says detention officers found the remnants of a radio and what they say was a plastic homemade knife.
