It’s the time of year when we often need to rely on the Tropics to bring us nedded rainfall.

We’re entering what’s typically the busy time of hurricane season…and on cue, the Tropics heat up.

It’s been quiet since a very early tropical depression, but it’s too early to declare this hurricane season a quiet one.

NOAA’s May outlook for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season is out, and, as usual, be ready for just about anything.

Omar formed in the eastern Caribbean to the south of Puerto Rico and is expected to gradually strengthen over the next 48 hours.

The peak of hurricane season runs from mid-August through mid-October, so the recent increase in stormy weather through the Tropics should really come as no surprise.

As the travels of Fay have reminded us, forecasting tropical weather is a tricky endeavor…and slight shifts can have large effect down the road.  That’s how one can go from expecting heavy rain to a situation where rainfall is more questionable.
