FREDHOG: Finally, Fuzzy Fred-Faced Furball Furnishes Fearless Forecast
About four years ago, in the process of again preparing for the Punxatawney Phil hoopla, it occurred to me that we would be much better served with our very own, in-house varmint. Why rely on Pennsylvania (or Gerogia or anywhere else for that matter) for OUR local outlook. So we turned to Fredhog…part goundhog, part Caddyshack-inspired gopher, and part Fred…to supply the forecast: six nore weeks of winter, or an early spring? And we’ve been douing it ever since…his handlers assure me that Fredhog’s success rate is perfect, even though records of past predictions and results seem to be hard to come by. No matter…our little fuzzball, who looked a little more animated this year than in years past, did not see a shadow. This would mean, on balance, more spring-like weather than winter-like weather over the next month and a half.
And if he’s wrong…hey, he’s not costing us much. All the vegetation he can eat in a field out back. All we have to do is spend a little quality time with hin every so often…and keep him far, FAR away from Fred Cunningham.
