July; It’s All Downhill from Here…
That may be a glass half-empty sounding title, but as far as summer weather is concerned, the next few weeks mark our typical peak in summer heat. That’s not to say we won’t be awfully hot at some point in August, but our average high temperatures will be at their area-wide peaks from mid to late July…upper 80s Upstate, mid 80s mountains. Those averages start to cool in the mountains before July is over, while we wait for the first days in August to pass before average temperatures begin to slip in the Upstate.
Combine this with the fact that the July 4th holiday is pretty close to the midpoint of many summer vacations as far as schools are concerned, and that our time in sunlight is already slowly getting shorter now that the summer solstice is passed…and the writing’s on the wall: fall is on the way!
Well, not quite yet…but I’m sure it won’t be soon enough for many football fans…
